SONG OF LOVE AND HEALTH, the latest short film by Portuguese director João Nicolau, was awarded this Saturday with the Best Short Film Prize at the 2nd Recife Janela Internacional Film Festival.

The jury described the film as “a true Auteur film that brings us images and sounds of tangible absurdity, with a very peculiar smoothness. The character inside world influences the mise en scène. A film which aggregates arts and opens windows connected to cinema’s history without nostalgia.”
This short was screened at Cannes Film Festival, was awarded at Vila do Conde Short Film Festival, and recently won Best Young European Director Prize at IMAGO, Fundão International Young Film Festival.
In November, SONG OF LOVE AND HEALTH will also be screened at Rio de Janeiro International Short Film Festival.
This film, that succeeds the multi-awarded “Bird of Prey” (which was also selected in 2006 to Cannes), introduces us to João, the only employee that we can see in Morais Key Cutting shop. He is also the son of the owner and he doesn’t hesitate about leaving the shop and following his heart’s whispers to spend coin after coin in the slot of a Love Machine. Marta of the Hills is a Fine Art Student who brings an unusual request. The key that João duplicates for her opens more than a single door.
