O Som e a Fúria was created in September 1998. The company is fully dedicated to film production in order to establish a connection with independent auteur cinema. The quality of its proposals, associated with the development of the individual universes of its authors, are the backbone of this production company.

The continuing work since its foundation has paved the way to the production of 29 short-films, 4 documentaries and 8 fiction features. In all, these flms have gathered more than 60 awards and 14 special mentions in film festivals. It’s feature films have been commercially screened in France, Germany, United Kingdom, Belgium, Switzerland, Brazil, Argentina, Chile, Mexico, USA and Japan.

Since 2006, films as The Face You Deserve, Our Beloved Month of August, Uprise, Ruins and The Portuguese Nun are usually present in Years Best Films lists, in international publications as “Cahiers du Cinema”, “Sight & Sound”, “The Guardian”, “New Yorker”, “New York Times”, “Film Comment” and “Clarin”.

It is currently post-producing two features: Tabu, by Miguel Gomes, in co-production with France, Germany and Brazil, and MANOEL DE OLIVEIRA’s next film, “Gebo and the Shadow”, in co-production with Antoine and Martine de Clermont-Tonnerre (Mact Productions). It also has two features in development, “War Letters”, by Ivo Ferreira, and “El Rincón de Darwin”, by Diego Fernandez, this last one in co-production with Uruguay; two documentaries in development and 5 shorts in preparation.

At the same time, since 2003, O Som e a Fúria began distributing the work that it has been producing.
